The first “Maniacs” movie on Netflix has made $3.2 million at the box office, far exceeding its budget of $1.9 million.
The $1 million opening was also far above expectations, with critics predicting a better than $1 billion debut.
“Maneater” was released in August 2015, just days after the death of the star of “Mancunian” Paul Newman’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”
It’s the second film of the year to open to positive reviews, following “The Help,” which debuted to $1,845 million in April.
It’s also one of the most successful movies of all time, with $1-billion gross worldwide.
The film stars Sam Rockwell, Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde, and has been viewed more than 4 million times on Netflix.
It also has some of the best reviews on Netflix, with nearly 70% of subscribers calling it their favorite film of 2017.
“The man from U.” stars Paul Newman, Natalie Tapp, Josh Gad, Jamie Foxx, Natalie Morales and Rob Lowe, and is based on Newman’s bestselling memoir, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”
